Breeding Program

At Chasing Dreams Ranch, our breeding program is built intentionally, one animal at a time. The cattle featured here represent key animals within our program—those who shape the direction, temperament, and quality of the calves we raise.

This is not our entire herd. These are the cattle that play a meaningful role in our breeding decisions and help define the standards we hold ourselves to. Each animal is evaluated for structure, disposition, and suitability for responsible ownership, and each contributes to the long-term integrity of our program.

Our program is rooted in Highland cattle and thoughtfully selected Highland crosses. One important thing to understand about Highlands—and responsible breeding in general—is that not all cattle within a program will be the same size. While we do raise miniature and micro-miniature cattle, we also maintain mid-size animals as part of a balanced, genetically sound breeding program.

Size variation is intentional. Genetics, bone structure, maturity, and safe breeding pairings all play a role in determining which animals are bred together and which are not. Breeding strictly for size without regard for structure, health, or safety is not something we believe in. Maintaining a range of sizes within the herd allows us to make responsible pairing decisions, preserve breed integrity, and produce calves that are healthy, well-built, and suited for long-term success.

All of our cattle are raised in a working, educational ranch environment where daily observation, hands-on care, and intentional breeding guide every decision. Transparency matters to us, and this page is meant to give you a clear look at the animals behind our program—not just what they look like, but why they are here.

As you explore, our hope is that you gain confidence in how we breed, how we manage our herd, and why thoughtful genetics—not just size—are the foundation of our program.

Buddy

Buddy is our chondro-positive micro miniature Highland bull and the smallest member of the Chasing Dreams Ranch herd — but he makes up for his size with personality. Fluffy, confident, curious, and full of spunk, Buddy loves being in the middle of the action and soaking up attention. He’s a perfect example of how big hearts and bold spirits can come in the tiniest packages, and he’s already a favorite with visitors learning about miniature cattle and ranch life.

Dorthy

Dorothy is our chondro-positive mini Belted Galloway, born in 2024, with a bold black-and-white belt and an even bolder personality. Small in size but big on independence, she’s known for her stubborn streak, confident presence, and undeniable charm. Once she decides you’re worth her time, her sweet side shines through—making her a memorable and much-loved part of the Chasing Dreams Ranch herd.

Elsa

Elsa is our snow-white mini Highland and the definition of fluffy perfection. With her cloud-like coat, gentle eyes, and calm, princess-like presence, she stops visitors in their tracks and steals hearts instantly. Sweet, curious, and endlessly soft, Elsa embodies everything people dream of when they imagine Highland cattle—and she’s one of the most beloved members of the Chasing Dreams Ranch herd.

Pochahontas

Pocahontas is our rare dun mini Highland and one of the true treasures of the Chasing Dreams Ranch herd. With her soft, golden-toned coat and quiet, graceful presence, she draws people in the moment they see her. Gentle, thoughtful, and a little shy at first, Pocahontas rewards patience with trust and sweetness, making her a beautiful example of both the rarity and the gentle nature that make Highlands so special.

Ariel

Ariel is our fiery red Highland calf and the ultimate burst of energy at Chasing Dreams Ranch. Curious, playful, and always on the move, she brings excitement and laughter wherever she goes. Equal parts mischief and sweetness, Ariel loves interaction and thrives on attention—making her one of the most entertaining and unforgettable personalities in the herd.

Billy Ray Sire

Billy Ray Sire is our midsize Highland herd bull and the genetic cornerstone of Chasing Dreams Ranch. Calm, steady, and exceptionally well-mannered, he leads the pasture with quiet confidence. Billy Ray carries the highly sought-after dilution gene—a rare and valuable trait that enhances color depth, softness, and visual dimension in his calves. This genetic influence is responsible for many of the rich, glowing reds and uniquely toned coats seen throughout our program, making him not only a beloved presence on the ranch, but a truly special and irreplaceable part of our breeding foundation.

Reba

Reba is our bold red Highland cow with a confident presence and an unapologetic love of food. Outgoing, expressive, and full of character, she brings warmth and energy to daily ranch life. With her rich red coat, graceful horns, and joyful approach to the simple pleasures—especially mealtime—Reba is a true embodiment of the rugged beauty and lively spirit that define the Chasing Dreams Ranch herd.

Dolly

Dolly is our smallest fully grown mini Highland cow and one of the gentlest souls on the ranch. With her soft blonde coat, signature curly hair, and quiet, nurturing nature, she brings a calm sweetness to the herd. As the devoted mother of micro mini bull Buddy, Dolly perfectly embodies the tender, maternal side of ranch life and reminds us that strength and beauty often come in the smallest, softest packages.

Wyoming Wynonna

Wyoming Wynonna is our rich red Highland cow known for her exceptionally thick coat and classic Highland look. Though her name is Wyoming, she came to us from Wisconsin—bringing with her the heavy hair and hardiness that cold-climate Highlands are prized for. With her striking presence and robust coat quality, Wynonna represents the kind of foundational genetics we value deeply in our breeding program at Chasing Dreams Ranch.

MooDonna

Moodonna is our powerful white Highland cow and one of the true cornerstones of the Chasing Dreams Ranch breeding program. Strong, substantial, and beautifully built, she carries herself with a commanding yet calm presence. Her structure is balanced and correct from every angle, her frame solid and feminine, and her overall form exactly what we strive for in a Highland cow. More than just striking in appearance, Moodonna represents strength, quality, and intentional breeding—and she leaves her mark not only in the pasture, but in the calves she produces. She is everything a Highland cow should be.

Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn is our full Dexter cow with classic black-tipped markings and the strongest maternal instinct on the ranch. Loud, fiercely protective, and completely devoted to her babies, she takes motherhood seriously and makes sure everyone else knows it. Compact but commanding, Loretta carries herself with confidence and authority, proving that size has nothing to do with presence. Her bold personality, unwavering dedication to her calves, and unmistakable look make her one of the most respected and memorable mothers at Chasing Dreams Ranch.e heart of our miniature cattle program.

Memphis

Memphis is our Hi-Dex heifer (½ Highland × ½ Dexter) with a calm, graceful presence and a proven track record as an excellent mother. Gentle, observant, and steady by nature, she consistently produces beautifully colored calves that stand out while maintaining the balanced build and temperament we value in our program. Her quiet confidence, maternal instincts, and eye-catching offspring make her a truly special part of the Chasing Dreams Ranch herd.
